Planning Ahead For Holiday Shopping
If the thought of the credit card bills from the last holiday season are still making your head spin, you’re not alone! The good news is that you can start planning ahead now to make sure next year’s holiday season doesn’t dent your budget at all.
One of the first things you can do is change your mindset from the belief that it is okay to buy now and pay later. Decide today that you will not use credit cards for your future gift purchase. Instead, start “paying now” by setting aside some money.
If you save up the money you need for the holidays throughout the year, you will not have to worry about incurring any holiday debt next year. Imagine how nice it will feel to purchase your gifts without worrying about how you are going to pay the credit card bills!
Take some time now to make a list of who you need to purchase gifts for and set a budget of how much you would like to spend. Then, divide the budget into monthly or weekly amounts. Set up a special savings account and deposit the amount of money each week or month that you need to meet your goal.
Don’t forget that there is no rule that holiday shopping has to be done in November or December. You can do your shopping throughout the year as you find items on sale. When you find a deal that you cannot pass up, you can purchase it and store it in your closet or spare room until the holidays arrive.
