My News Debut

Hi everyone!

A few days after Christmas I was contacted by a producer of a local cable news channel here in the DC, MD and VA Area, News Channel 8.  They were looking to interview a certified life coach on the topic of setting realistic resolutions, sticking to them and then talking about what a life coach does.

Well, I am just getting in from the interview and all I can say is WOW what a RUSH.  We (my best friend and I) arrived at the station just in time to get a tour and see how the station was set up. It was amazing to watch them do the news in 3 separate rooms but all spliced together to make one show simultaneously.

Also we Met Eleanor Holmes Norton.  She was on the News Talk show Directly before I was. We chatted briefly about the holidays and then we watched her interview.

At 4:40 I was up.. nervous but as soon as I sat in the chair, and they explained what camera to look at, what camera to avoid and to keep it conversational with the host – Heck I was ok!!  The interview was FILLED with information and YES my site was mentioned not 1 but 2 times by the host and my name was tossed out there a lot.

He totally let me show my expertise and a few times we laughed over something then I got right back to business. Much of what I said he ended up saying “I see, I never thought of that, WOW, that does make sense” so literally I talked the whole time, on topic, feeding off of his prompts and felt I did a GREAT job and showing my expertise in a VERY laid back fashion.  Honestly, when It was over, I felt that I coulda went on for another 20 minutes.

After the camera’s went off and I was unhooked the host shook my hand and said that I was such a natural!! He then commented on how professional I was, and how easy I made HIS job. HE admitted to not be on to set Resolutions but after listening to my Steps, he said he may give it a whirl!! Whoohoo!!

We ended up leaving TAPELESS :( – something about how they record digitally and it would have to come from another company…blah blah well Their site is here: http://www.news8.net/ and I see now that it could have been watched live from the PC.  I left the producer a message asking for the name and number of the company so that I could get a tape.  Just Saying I was on News Channel 8 with no proof won’t cut it :)

Thanks to my cyber family for the help, the tips and the support!!

Resolutions – New Year, New You

December 30, 2007 By: RealLifeSolutions Category: About the Family, Blogroll, Children, Freebies, Goals, Healthy Living, Just for Fun, Mommy Rambles, Organization, Pamper Yourself, Parenting, Self Esteem, Stress Management, Teenagers, Uncategorized, Working From Home No Comments →

It’s that time of the year again; when we make a New Years resolutions.  If you are anything like the majority of people in this country (83%  to be exact), you probably made and broke a resolution before the end of January last year.  But this year is going to be different.

This  message is all about how to make a realistic resolution and keep it. We’ll  get you to your ultimate goal – whatever it may be one step at a time.

It doesn’t matter if you resolve to loose some weight, stop smoking or carve some more time out for yourself.  Together we will get you there this year.  Here’s to a successful 2008.

===============================
2007 Reflection
===============================

The end of the year has always been a time for looking back to the  past, and more importantly, forward to the new year to come.

It’s a wonderful time to reflect on the changes we want and need to make and resolve to follow through on those changes.
Here are some questions to get you started in your reflection.
1)  What did I learn? (skills, knowledge, awareness, etc.)
2)  What did I accomplish? (Create a list of your accomplishments and achievements).
3)  What would I have done differently? Why?
4)  What still feels incomplete or unfinished to me?
5)  What were the top 3 significant events of the year past?
6)  What do I feel especially good about?
7)  What were my biggest challenges/roadblocks/difficulties?

Carve out some time to reflect, learn and grow from the past year. This  will prepare you for a positive New Year ahead.

===============================
Action Steps
===============================

Here are a few action steps for you to take into consideration when working on setting your resolutions.

1) Make sure you set goals that you can realistically reach. Striving to be perfect is not a realistic goal. Striving to eat healthier,  exercise more..etc. is a realistic goal.

2) Break your big goals up into bite-sized chunks. They key is to take  small, thought-through steps to reach your ultimate goal.

3) Write your goals down and force yourself to be very specific about  them. You can then refer back to your goals list and you can see how you  are measuring up. It is an empowering feeling to set goals and achieve them.

4) Celebrate! When you achieve a goal or overcome a hurdle that brings  you closer to that goal, CELEBRATE you and your accomplishment!

5) Get a goal buddy, coach, friend or partner to help you along the  way!

You can accomplish just about anything you ask of yourself. Make your goals specific and clear. When you know exactly what you intend to do,  you’re well on your way to getting it done.

Where in the heck do the years go.  Isaac turned 8 today and he is just beyond excited!!  He woke me up at 7am saying “Mom, your 7yo moved out of the way to make room for your new and improved 8yo”!  :peek

Today just he and I are home (Lance is at work and Isreal has a Basketball game). I think I am going to surprise him and take him to see Alvin & the Chipmunks.

Later today we will have Cake and Ice cream and his bday party with 12 of his friends will be on Saturday

WOW, how time flies

Sharing a Few Christmas & Birthday Pictures

December 26, 2007 By: RealLifeSolutions Category: About the Family, Blogroll, Children, Freebies, Goals, Healthy Living, Just for Fun, Mommy Rambles, Organization, Pamper Yourself, Parenting, Self Esteem, Stress Management, Teenagers, Uncategorized, Working From Home No Comments →

What a busy busy day but it went so well.  Christmas is always filled with laughter, fun and cooking at my house and it also doubles as my birthday.  Everything was wonderful and we stayed in our jammies all day and just enjoyed it.

What a brave Mom I am to have bought Isreal an electric guitar WITH an amp.  She was so happy that she cried.. yes a 16yo crying on Christmas morning.. truly priceless

Isaac was in Christmas Heaven all day, running from here to there and playing with everything in his sight.  He actually didnt stand still at all to get a good picture but I managed to snap an aftermath shot of his room. I have a feeling many children across the world had a room looking like this today …lol

Since Christmas is my birthday and Hubby and I have an agreement that neither one of us works on our birthday..hubby was in charge of dinner and what a job he did.  He prepared Turkey, Ham, Mac & Cheese, Fresh Collards, Yams and Rolls  What a spread!!

Isaac being a total HAM :)

Lance pulled out all the stops and ordered a lovely Red Velvet birthday cake for me. It was delicious

And last but not least the one picture I think that all moms enjoy seeing is a shot of your kid coming down from a sugar high and CRASHING.  Isaac swore he was just going to lay on my bed for 2 minutes.. within 1minute he was snoring away.

I pray that you and your family had a great holiday!!

Today starts the 1st day of Kwanzaa so the celebrations start all over again and don’t end until Jan 1:jig.

Also, Thursday is Isaac’s 8th Birthday so we will have a small family gathering at the house then a party with 12 of his friends on Saturday.

No lights on at Arika’s

December 23, 2007 By: RealLifeSolutions Category: About the Family, Blogroll, Children, Freebies, Goals, Healthy Living, Just for Fun, Mommy Rambles, Organization, Pamper Yourself, Parenting, Self Esteem, Stress Management, Teenagers, Uncategorized, Working From Home No Comments →

Hee hee!! I am loving this CBC with my friend Arika because I am getting to learn so much more about her. And YES She was right in guessing what My weakness was. She is a smart lady.

Well my last question to Arika was a good and nosy one asking “How Has Your Pregnancy Been So Far”? Her answer was so good, detailed and parts of it cause me to get bit by the “baby bug” :) This is a must read so please run over the link above and check out her answer.

So here is the question that Arika asked me:

“What are some of the things you do to keep things stress free at Christmas time around your house?”

Wow what a loaded question. 1st let me start off by saying that it sounds like Arika has a winner of a hubby!! WOW he really does a lot this time of year!!

Well, Christmas Day is also my Birthday and at our family we Celebrate Christmas AND Kwanzaa on top of that, my sons birthday is 2 days after Christmas and will be turning 8. As you can imagine the Williams’ household is jumping from Dec 20th – January 2nd :)

I love living as stress free as possible and here are some of the things that I do around the holiday time to stress at bay.

  1. Shopping – I create my shopping list in early November and start shopping early for everyone on my holiday list as well as for Isaac’s birthday. Usually I do 90% of my shopping online to beat the hustle and bustle of the mall. This year I finished all of my shopping about 8 days before Christmas! It is now 2 days before and all the gifts are wrapped and stashed in my hiding spot :)
  2. Decorating – Let the kids to it! (smile) Lance and I set up the tree, Kwanzaa decorations and lights that then let the children have at it. They do most of the crafts, ornaments, pictures and cards decorating as we dance to some soulful holiday music and video tape the entire ordeal. We have tapes that go back to 1998 :)
  3. HELP ME!! <– One of my favorite tools. Since it is my birthday week there is a rule that I don’t cook on Christmas. Thankfully Hubby is a wonderful cook and thoughtful so he prepares a huge breakfast buffet and a nice dinner for us each Christmas so that I can actually Relax on my birthday. My older girls are great with helping to assemble toys, clean up the mounds of boxes and the cleaning.
  4. Time Out – I make sure that no matter what is going on, that I still make time for my 30 minutes of me time that I take for meditation and/or journaling.
  5. Stop/Slow Down Working - Usually I spent 2+hrs or much more daily working on my WAH Businesses. Well during the week between Christmas and New Years I cut Way back. I do this so that I don’t have the stress of work, family and me time all at me at once. I really play work by ear and take a much needed break.
  6. Be good To Me – I usually treat myself to something nice. Last night it was attending a really fun Holiday Ball with my best friend, where we ate, danced and had a great time.
  7. Sleep <–my other best friend I am the type of gal that doesn’t function well on less than 8hrs of sleep to I make sure that I get sleep during the night and a nap during the day.

So, I think that’s about it. Arika knows that when I start talking about how to reduce stress that I can write a book so I will stop it right here.

So my next question for Arika is

“I cant help but to notice how awesome your blog is and how you keep posting exciting posts daily. What are your future plans for that awesome blog of yours?”

Happy Holidays!

Last night my best friend Kim and I attended a fabulous Holiday Ball that was at a beautiful hotel in VA.

The party was amazing and we had a great time.  For 5 hours we danced, ate, sat, talked and met up with old friends. All of this with no cell phones, kids or husbands around!!  We had a wonderful time and plan to keep up the traditions of getting all dressed up and attending the Ball yearly!  Here is a picture of me right before I left the house.

By the time I came home I was exhausted and my feet were sore from all of the dancing but we had the time of our lives :)

A Christmas Cookie Funny

Christmas Cookie Recipe

In case you need to make Christmas Cookies:

·         1 cup of water

·         1 tsp baking soda

·         1 cup of sugar

·         1 tsp salt

·         1 cup of brown sugar lemon juice

·         4 large eggs

·         1 cup nuts

·         2 cups of dried fruit

·         1 bottle Jose Cuervo Tequila

Sample the Cuervo to check quality. Take a large bowl, check the Cuervo again to be sure it is of the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer…Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar…Beat again.

At this point it’s best to make sure the Cuervo is still OK, try another cup. Just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy. Break 2 leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Pick up the damn fruit off floor… Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the Cuervo to check for tonsisticity.

Next, sift two cups of salt, or something. Who giveshz a sheet. Check the Jose Cuervo. Now shift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table.. Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven.. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window, finish the Cose Juervo and make sure to put the stove in the dishwasher.

CHERRY MISTMAS :)

Sprinkle some FUN on your life

As busy moms, I am sure there are times when you get a tad grumpy. Admit it, we all do (smile) Well, here are a few fun tips that you can incorporated into your life. Make a *FUN* list.

Make a list of the current activities or hobbies that bring enjoyment to your life. Also be sure to include the hobbies or activities that you have never tried but you think would be fun. Work to pick one item off of your Fun List and do it ASAP.

Get together with some girlfriends. One of the best ways to rediscover yourself is to spend some time with your girlfriends each week. Have lunch together, go to the movies to watch the latest chick flick, or plan a girl’s night out every once in a while.

Pamper Yourself. Do something every month to pamper yourself. Go get a new haircut. Visit your favorite nail saloon for a manicure, pedicure or to get your nails done. Call your favorite day spa and schedule a facial. Get a massage. You can even do some inexpensive things at home after the children have gone to bed. Light some candles and enjoy a quiet bubble bath.

Don’t feel guilty about taking time for yourself a few times a week. Your kids will appreciate it when they get a balanced and fun mom in return. You will be more relaxed, happier and actually be able to enjoy your family. After all, that’s why you had kids in the first place, isn’t it?
