I get such a thrill when I shop with WAHM’s!!

I can’t beliwve how fast the holidays are approaching WOW (only 64 days til’ Christmas).  Well, I am up late with insomnia so what better way to pass the time that to shop from my seat.

I love AVON and my daughters Isreal and Shayna love AVON as well.  The products are great, they come straight to my door and the prices can’t be beat.  I just placed a nice order for AVON producta for me to use now and a bunch of goodies that will be holiday gifts for my girls.

I shopped with Chris Carroll at http://www.shoponyourseat.com.  It has been awhile since I’ve been to her AVON site and I was pleased to see how easy the site is to still easy to navigate and the order process was a breeze.  I was really happy to see Paypal as a payment option too!

If you are looking for great gifts for yourself or for a loved, be sure to run over to her site – they are having a HUGE Sale and I felt like a Kid in a Candy-store and I made out like a Fat rat (smile).

Keeping Your Children Busy When You Work From Home

October 21, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: About the Family, Children, Mommy Rambles, Parenting, Working From Home No Comments →

Juggling children and work can be a challenge, whether you work outside the home or you are a work from home mom, but, in some ways, work from home moms face more challenges than moms who work outside the home. After all, when you’re in a traditional office, you don’t need to worry that a coworker will burst into the room and scream “Mommy, he took my doll,” just as you are beginning an important conference call.

So how does a work from home mom manage to keep her children happy and busy while she is trying to get her job done?

First, you need to let your children know when you are not to be disturbed. Set up a schedule that includes playtime and work time and remind them that if they don’t disturb you while you are working, you will be able to give them your complete attention during playtime. As a reminder, use a do not disturb sign on your office door when you absolutely cannot be interrupted.

Of course, it is easy for your children to behave while you are working if they have something to do. Fill a box with games and toys that can only be used while mom is working. Make sure you add a new puzzle, coloring book, or small toy on a frequent basis, to keep your children interested.

If you don’t work on the phone, it is a bit easier to keep your children content when you are working. Set up an office space just for them, complete with a small table and chairs. Fill a lunch box with some of their favorite snacks and a few juice boxes each morning, so you aren’t inundated with requests for food and drinks. Add a children’s magazine, simple puzzles, coloring books, and art supplies. When your children are able to work along side you, the number of interruptions should decrease drastically.

For moms who really need peace and quiet, but have small children, a mother’s helper can be a great solution. Since you will still be in the house, you do not need a fully trained baby sitter to help out. Instead, look for a teen who has little babysitting experience, but likes kids. She will probably be happy to watch your children while you work for the cost of a few good after school snacks and a few dollars.

Finally, sometimes it’s just not possible to keep your children quiet and content while you are working. If your child is ill, you may just need to decide to take the day off. After all, the reason you are working from home is to have the flexibility to be there for your children when they need you!

Super Mom Syndrome: Are you Suffering?

October 20, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: About the Family, Children, Freebies, Healthy Living, Organization, Pamper Yourself, Parenting, Self Esteem, Stress Management, Working From Home No Comments →

Family TimeLet’s face it; no one can do it all without experiencing the suffering and stress related conditions adherent to the every day demands placed upon them. Suffice to say, many moms have tried; some have been successful, while others have been immeasurably consumed by its consequences. The super mom syndrome is exacting a very heavy toll on their home life, business, and physical well-being.

Thirty years ago, the top TV shows were exclusively focused on the housewife; the mom. Conversely, the shows today highlight single working moms who effortlessly juggle all of the demands placed upon them with flair and ease. Yes, they sometimes showcase the conflict; but quite frankly, the hype is more conducive to ratings than to real life situations.

The super mom syndrome has produced an A type personality, which has contributed to the imbalance and unrealistic expectations imposed by moms who think they can do it all; but soon realize perfectionism can never outweigh the happiness and fulfillment of simply being a mom, without all of the peripheral trappings.

There is no need to suffer any longer. You need to find a balance; prioritize that which is most important; the children first. They will eventually grow up, leaving you with the inconsolable desire to retrieve their childhood years. Resist the temptation to totally immerse yourself in one area. Stay healthy; keep your friends close, and don’t worry about tomorrow – live within the moment, cherish your family. You are the heart of the house; you don’t need to be perfect, you just need to be a mom.

4 Great Reasons Not To Be Afraid To Ask For Help

October 19, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: About the Family, Children, Freebies, Goals, Just for Fun, Mommy Rambles, Pamper Yourself, Stress Management No Comments →

If you’re tired of being Super Mom, let me share with you a few reasons why you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help.

Reason #1: You deserve a break. Moms are busy people. We take on a lot of tasks and often don’t get much credit or recognition for them. Moms work 24 hours a day, rarely getting breaks. Allow yourself to take a break every now and again.

Reason #2: You can’t do it all by yourself. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. In fact, it’s just the opposite, a sign of strength. Someone once said that no man (or mama) is an island. Oh how true this is! There is no way you could do everything by yourself, and if you did you would be exhausted so ask for help and feel good doing it.

Reason #3: They want to help you. If there is no other reason for you to ask for help, remember this one: your family and friends want to help you. That’s right—they want to. I’ve heard family members of so many new mothers say that they would love to help, but the mom never asks for help. Sometimes people don’t want to feel like they’re intruding so be proactive in asking for help.  When friends and family ask if there is anything they can do to help say yes.  If people ask you what you would like as a gift, mention housecleaning vouchers (or ask a close friend or relative to spread the word for you).

Reason #4: Being a “good” mom means taking care of you. Last, but certainly not least, asking for help does not mean that you are a bad mother. Lots of moms refuse help because they think others will view them as terrible parents for doing so. This couldn’t be further from the truth. A good mother knows when she needs help and isn’t afraid to ask for it. She knows when she needs a break. A good mother also knows that she needs to take care of herself first in order to keep the family going.

SAT Help For Your Teens

October 18, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: About the Family, Children, Healthy Living, Mommy Rambles, Parenting, Teenagers 1 Comment →

The SAT that our teens take today isn’t like the one we took years ago.

Did you know that in March 2005, the SAT became a longer, more challenging, and a lot different? The SAT is now 3 hours and 45 minutes long. What was known as the Verbal Section has been renamed Critical Reading and the Analogies questions have been eliminated and replaced with Short Reading Passages.

An SAT Writing Section has been added, which contains multiple-choice grammar questions and a 25-minute written essay. Finally, the Math Section has been expanded to include three years of high school math — in other words, it now includes harder questions in the area of algebra II.

For your teen, taking the SAT is a huge, life molding event.  It marks the beginning of a countdown to your child’s high school graduation and has us, parents, thinking seriously sending our teens off to college.

Helping our teens prepare for the SAT is crucial!  It is important to not leave this preparation solely in the hands of your child’s school.  It is important to arm your child with other materials that help them gain the test taking skills that will propel them to higher SAT test scores.

I’ve filled the Parenting My Teen eStore with awesome books to help your teenager with the SAT this year.  Stop by http://www.parentingmyteen.com/SAT-Help.HTML soon.  The books are filled with exercises, drills, and full-length sample exams that create a true-to-life testing experience

Here’s to helping your teen do his/her very best!

3 Great Ways To Start Your Day

October 17, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: About the Family, Freebies, Healthy Living, Mommy Rambles, Parenting, Self Esteem, Stress Management, Working From Home No Comments →

Did you konw that the way you spend your morning can add a certain spin to the rest of your day?

Here are some healthy lifestyle habits to incorporate into your morning routine that can leave you better able to handle the stressors that you may experience during the day.

Put On Some Music — Music has been shown to reduce stress and have a positive effect on health. Music can compliment other healthy lifestyle habits, adding a sense of peace to a yoga workout, putting a spring in your step on a morning walk, or stimulating your mind as you write in your journal.

Eat a Balanced Breakfast — For those of you who start the day on a bagel and coffee, read this! Breakfast is known as ‘the most important meal of the day’ for a very good reason: a healthy meal in the morning can balance your blood sugar levels and give you the sustenance you need to handle physical and mental stress. Without it, you will be less resilient, both physically and mentally. Be sure to have plenty of protein and fruit, not just caffeine and empty calories!

Write in Your Journal — Journaling has many health and stress management benefits, and can also lead to increased self-awareness. Writing once a day can help you feel focused, process negative emotions, and solve problems.

Try one or several of these ways to start the day and let me know how it works for you. Share with us how you start off our day?  I welcome your feedback.
