College preparation doesn’t have to be stressful…

May 07, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: Stress Management, Teenagers, Working From Home, Freebies, Goals, Children, Organization, Uncategorized No Comments →

If you have children and don’t have a college plan in place, you may want to start thinking about starting one soon. Here are 4 ways to prepare for your kid’s college education:1. Start saving today. One thing is certain - you can never save too much money or plan too far ahead for your child’s education. College expenses are soaring around the country at all-time highs. It’s a good idea to create a college saving plan and implement it a soon as possible. Even saving a little each week is better than no savings at all.

2. Plan ahead. Many parents think planning ahead only means saving money. While this is true, there are other things you should take into consideration well before your child is ready for college. Colleges often require an application fee when your child submits their application for approval. If your child applies to several colleges or universities, these fees alone can add up very fast. Start checking into every aspect of the application and college processes. Educate yourself on these extra fees and expenses so that you can plan for them accordingly.

3. Don’t rely on school counselors alone. Be proactive in your child’s post-graduate education. School counselors can be helpful, but often have a huge workload. Stay in contact with your child’s school counselors, teachers and administrators. Ask how you can help, or what extra measures you need to take as a parent. Take an active part in learning what scholarship and financial aid programs your child should apply for. Your child may be able to apply for several types of financial aid regardless of your income.

4. Involve your teens in the college preparation. While you should take a hands-on approach to your kid’s college education, don’t do all the work for them. Let them fill out forms, pay application fees, and ask questions. Help them create a financial plan for their college years and even save up for some of the costs.

Other College Preparation Tips:

  • It is advisable to begin researching colleges in the beginning of your child’s junior year in high school. He or she needs to think about what his interests are and if an out of state college is on the list.
  • Make an appointment with your Guidance Counselor to go over your grades and high school transcript.
  • Engage in as much extracurricular activities as you can, as it does count a great deal when applying for different colleges. Some of the activities can include: Dancing, Singing, Volunteer work, writing for, or editor of, school newspaper, Drama club, Science club; and community involvement.
  • Research colleges on the internet. You can find a wealth of information as to their curriculum and degrees. Talk to friends who attend different colleges to ascertain how good the college and professors are; the curriculum; campus; and area. Network is much and as often as you can. The more you know about the college, the better prepared you will be.
  • Decide early on if you want to go out of state, or attend a local college. This makes the process of choosing a college easier.
  • Take an SAT course to help you do well on the SATs. Colleges look at your SAT scores in Math and English, as well as your grades and extracurricular activities.
  • If you do not do well on the SATs, you can take them again.
  • Start visiting colleges as early as you can. Visit the lecture halls; dorms; Library; and engage in conversation with students on campus. Ask many questions such as: the workload, the professors, and what activities are held on campus.
  • Aim high, but apply to your local schools as well. Write to or visit all of the campuses and bring home brochures to peruse. Attend college fairs in your area where you can talk one on one with students and other members of the college.
  • You can also obtain information on colleges at your local bookstore. There are hundreds of books available on US colleges, including their rank, and selection process.
  • If your child has never been away, set up a trip to a summer camp. Or set aside a few weeks during the summer so they can take some courses for high school students at a college in your area. This will give them a sense of what college life is like; and of course, what type of courses they may be taking.

I wanted to take a little time out to spread the word about Life Coaching and what it  can do to help just about anyone. No, not every coach is suited for every client but the right coach/client combination is such powerful tool.

I hear different variations of the following questions and statements a  lot: “What can a coach do for me?”, “I can’t afford to pay a coach!”,  “What does SHE know that I don’t know?”, “I don’t need a stinkin’ Coach!” Ok, well I tossed the word “stinkin’” in there (smile) but I do know there are many people who could benefit from the power of coaching but
feel they don’t need it.

Hopefully the following can open some eyes to the magic of this wonderful tool!

Coaching is an effective process used to support individuals in creating something new for themselves. I work side by side with my clients  coaching them by providing perspective and support for self-knowledge as they accomplish their business and personal goals.

I help women achieve more balance in their lives which ultimately leads to a life filled with happiness and serenity. I believe all women have the tools they need inside to lead a more fulfilling life. If you are ready to find your way to a more balanced you, I will be your guide.

There are many benefits to having a Personal Life Coach and here are just a few. Coaching is a valuable process for people looking to:

  • design life intentions that include both your business and personal goals.
  •  make meaningful personal changes that reduce stress and simplify your life.
  • free up energy and other resources to attract what you want for your life now.
  • enhance the quality of your communication and relationships
  • work through a career or life transition
  • achieve better work/life balance
  • gain clarity, focus and direction

Coaching is also for those that are successful and growing entrepreneurs, where everything is going really well, and you would just appreciate a neutral sounding board who will give you straight-up honest feedback
and on-going support.

I am offering you a gift of a free sample session. This session is absolutely free and has ‘no strings attached’.  On top of that I would also like to offer you a full ** 20% off ** of ANY of our coaching packages

Easy Time Saving Tips For Moms

In the fast paced world that we live in, many women search for time saving tips to keep their sanity in tact.

Here are some time saving tips that you can use to optimize and free up  your precious time:

Schedule Like Tasks at The Same Time:  Instead of sitting in front of your computer all day returning e-mails as they arrive, try to return all e-mails during the same block(s) of time.  Set aside an hour or so 2-3 times a day to returmultiple e-mails as opposed to doing it sporadically all day.

Combine your outdoor errands: When you are out grocery shopping also  pick up your needed prescriptions, run to the post office and fill up your gas tank. By doing this you will not have to leave the house 3 - 4 times in the same day.

Be sure to allow for some flexibility in your schedule:  If the sun starts shining on what you thought was going to be a rainy day, grab those children and head to the park or take an impromptu trip to the Zoo!

5 Easy Steps To Build Up Your Self Esteem

May 03, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: Teenagers, Stress Management, Self Esteem, Working From Home, Pamper Yourself, Freebies, Healthy Living, Children, Blogroll, Parenting, Organization, Goals, Uncategorized No Comments →

Building up your self-confidence takes time and commitment but it is well worth it! You will soon find yourself embracing your new image and giving off a very positive energy that will surely come back to you.

1 - Start each morning and end each day with a positive statement or thought. Create your own mantra (i.e. “I am intelligent”, “I will have a positive day”, “I will succeed”).

2 - Get to know the TRUE you and accept yourself. The more you accept your true self the more others will do the same.

3 - Make a list of all your positive characteristics and achievements. Keep adding to this list as time goes on and be sure to keep your list in a place where you can access it and read it at will.

4 - Choose your words/thoughts carefully; Take time to replace negative thoughts with positive ones. If you are faced with a challenging task — instead of saying, “I will never get this done on time” rephrase your word/thoughts into positives: “When I finish this task I will treat myself to something nice” or “This may be challenging but I can do this”.

5 - Take what you are good at and enhance it. Let others know about it! Hold your head up high, be proud and know that you have a special gift
inside of you.

Simple Money Making Tips For Moms

May 02, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: Teenagers, Stress Management, Self Esteem, Working From Home, Pamper Yourself, Freebies, Healthy Living, Children, Blogroll, Parenting, Organization, Goals, Uncategorized No Comments →

Moms know that staying home with the kids is an important job, perhaps the most important job that a woman can have. Unfortunately, few moms can afford to give up all of the income they’ve been contributing to the family coffers. However, finding the right work from home job can be a bit of a challenge. Luckily, moms can find ways to contribute to the household’s financial well being while they are hunting for the perfect work from home job.

Do your children have toys they’ve barely touched or clothing they’ve outgrown that is still in good shape? One great way to make a bit of extra money is to gather up all of the items you aren’t using anymore and hold a garage sale or yard sale. Make sure that everything is clean, well organized, and clearly priced before you hold your sale. You should have a sign that clearly announces the sale in your front yard and you may want to also place a classified ad in your local paper. To save on advertising costs and generate more interest, ask a few other neighborhood moms to chip in.

If you don’t live in a yard sale friendly location, you can still resell your children’s gently worn clothing as they outgrow it. Check the local yellow pages for the phone numbers for a few consignment shops. Be sure to talk to a few different shops to find one that has a low consignment fee and is also clean and well organized.

Of course, you can also earn money by going to yard sales and buying nice items at low prices to resell on eBay. Before you begin buying things, take some time to look at eBay auctions to see what sells and what doesn’t. Some of the oddest items, such as children’s weaving looms or fast food collectibles still in the bag, sell for a good sum of money. Other things don’t sell at all.

Another great way for moms to make money is to combine coupons, sales, and rebates. During the Christmas season, many stores have substantial rebate offers for everything from tools to pre-paid cellular phones. You can have a wonderful Christmas without blowing the family budget, which will make you feel just as happy after the holiday as your kids feel while they are opening their gifts. Of course, quite a few drug stores have rebate offers for hair dye, shampoos, and extension cords throughout the year. If you use these items, you probably planned to buy them anyway, but you may not have been considering buying them if you have no use for them. However, even if you don’t need something that is free or almost free after rebate, you may want to buy it to add to your yard sale stash.

Finally, if you’d like to be able to afford a few fun extras, you may want to consider doing a bit of mystery shopping. You can get free meals, trips to the movies, or clothing in exchange for information about your shopping experience. Just be sure you don’t pay for mystery shopper information. One of the best free places to find legitimate companies that offer mystery shopping is http://www.internetbasedmoms.com

Tips For Happier Parenting

May 01, 2007 By: Real Life Solutions Category: Teenagers, Self Esteem, Working From Home, Pamper Yourself, Stress Management, Freebies, Children, Parenting, Organization, Uncategorized No Comments →

Parenting has got to be the most rewarding and most stressful job in the world.

Have you seen the “Cheaper by the Dozen” Movie (the 2003 version)?  Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt play the parents of 12 kids.  There is definitely lots of stress and chaos in their fictional family.  The Movie makes a great point though.  We need to enjoy our kids and laugh at some of the stuff that happens around the house.  So what if your youngest turned your living room wall into a canvas.  In the bigger scheme of things having to paint a wall really isn’t so bad.  And on the bright side, you’ll get to rag on him or her for years to come (smile).  My point is, a lot of these parenting mayhems can be turned into fun memories instead of stressful moments.  It’s all in how we look at the situation.   Make a choice today to enjoy your kids.
